participate in re-enactments of colonial times

As they did during the previous thirteen Hupp's Hill day camps, our "new recruits" rotate between Civil War infantry and artillery encampments, learning to do the everyday activities of 1860's soldiers and civilians. The 10th Virginia Volunteer Infantry will teach the participants the 9-count loading sequence for rifled muskets. The Union 5th Regular Artillery will help the recruits drill with a real cannon! Our young soldiers will enjoy a Civil War period lunch, and end the day in a pitched battle against their instructors - Civil War Living Historians! Parents and spectators love watching the show. The camp provides a wonderful opportunity to experience the Civil War!

The Hupp's Hill Children's Camp is adding a second war scenario: our young soldiers will also fight the French and Indian War (1754-1763)! Authentically garbed and accoutered members of the Killbuck Rifle Club will help the youngsters understand the threat from Virginia's French and Indian enemies on the British colonial frontier. participate in re-enactments of colonial times The period encampment will show four different lifeways disrupted by a sudden attack that will require our young colonists to help defend Virginia! It's a unique opportunity to experience the French and Indian War!

To enlist in the armies defending Virginia, simply have your parent or guardian complete our registration process!
